Minimum Requirements

To begin the MAPP a candidate must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and US Citizen.
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must possess the mental, physical and medical health to adequately perform the duties of a firefighter.
  • Must be a certified EMT-B or higher (by the Texas Department of State Health Services or the National Registry) by July 24, 2008.
  • Must be certified or certifiable (IFSAC II) by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a Basic Structural Firefighter by July 24, 2008.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States as well as be able to read, write and speak the English language.

Out of state candidates may contact the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and/or the Texas Department of State Health Services for Texas certification and reciprocity.
